Yes, you are right, even some adults would love to play in such marvelous rooms..
There is only one “little” problem in such children’s rooms designs. Guess, what is it?
They are oriented on the ONE certain age of the child, mood and action. Such interior designs are “static”, because it’s hard to change anything in it without destroying all concept of the child’s room.* To my mind, they are perfect only if your family has more than one child of the same sex, so first it inspires your older child and after some time- younger one. (or let’s say on public playground where there are always children who can have lots of fun there and really appreciate it).
Of course, all children are unique and it’s hard to say when your son or daughter would enjoy “static interior design” the most and after what period of time they would become bored of such room. But the fact is children are growing and changing. If you are ready to change your children’s room as fast as your children change their heroes, go for it.
Otherwise, welcome to read this article where you can learn how create “dynamic” kid’s room which “grows” with your child.
Let’s try and understand the difference between “static” and “dynamic” design interiors of children’s room at a conceptual level:
In the most “static designs” we can see one particular room theme which is usually based on your child’s age & taste. It answers such questions as:
How old is your child?
What is your child favorite color?
Who is his/her cartoon hero?
What is his/her favorite toy?
As I said above, taste of a kid can change frequently, so are answers and design preferences accordingly.
“Dynamic design” is based on your child’s sex &character. It answers such questions as:
Is your child calm or active?
Is he/she social? and even
What is desired to be improved in your child’s character?
Let’s say, your child is a calm boy but you want him to be more energetic. Then you can apply some methods of the design (as I discuss below) inspiring him to be more outgoing, open and active.
Now, let’s see the elements of interior design in an increasing order with respect to their ease of change i.e. the hardest to change first and easiest to change in the end.
Walls, floors and ceilings are most complicated when it comes to redesign. (it goes along with electricity spots, lighting, HVAC)
Doors & windows
Kid’s furniture: bed/s, wardrobe, table & chairs, inbuilt sport complex, etc.
Interior Decoration: shelves, curtains, bed linings, etc.
Toys, books, etc.
In a “Static Design” major design accents include elements from the top of this list like complicated walls, floor patterns, false ceilings, custom doors and windows and so on.
As you can see on the pic below, clouds on the ceiling and walls along with spot lighting is the zest of this child’s room. But as these are also not easy to change frequently, your child might be stuck in these longer than he/she likes.

In “Dynamic design” walls and ceiling mostly act as a background, which is chosen according to your child’s character & gender. While main design accents are made with child’s room furniture and interior decoration which are easy to replace, modify, discard or alter to suit the growing children or their changing tastes.
Even more, there are many kinds of the “growing” furniture, with flexible size and functionality according to your child’s needs (see the cradle below as an example).

Beds in a shape of the boats act as a main design accent, while walls, ceiling, floor and window supporting this design idea only by their colors. Imagine that your child after few years grows out of this room – if walls, floor and window are still in a good condition, you can just change beds and decoration – voilà – new room for bigger boy is ready.;)
Last but not the least: how to choose background according to your child’s character and sex?
Here, basic knowledge about colors nature comes in handy.
You might be surprised to hear this -Interior color schemes have more influence on your child than the shape and design of the furniture and accessories!!!
Right color can persuade your child become calmer, or can help concentrate better or relax easier. See the table below for more information.
